Dental
Sedation
Our office offers
a wide variety of techniques to provide the most comfortable
dental care available. The most important thing is what is best
for you as an individual patient. Dr. Hatch meets with every
patient to review their needs and desires. Together with the
patient, we'll offer the most appropriate options. Every patient
is cared for as a unique individual.
Sedation
dentistry means many different things. Dr. Hatch is
trained to administer not only Nitrous Oxide "laughing
gas," but also in office Intravenous Sedation, also known
as "twilight sleep." Additionally, we offer full
general anesthesia either in office with a licensed
anesthesiologist, or in a full care out-patient surgical center.
What
Types of Dental Procedures Are Available With Sedation?
All
dental treatments can be done using one of five anesthetic
procedures.
-
Local
Anesthesia (traditional numbing)
-
Nitrous
Oxide (laughing gas)
-
Intravenous
Sedation (twilight sleep)
-
In
Office General Anesthesia (Anesthesiologist)
-
Outpatient
Surgical Center (general anesthesia with anesthesiologist)
Any
patient can be treated using one of the above techniques.
It is important to realize that most dentists are able to only
provide dentistry using local anesthesia or nitrous oxide.
Treatment using conscious sedation or general anesthesia will
require the expertise of a dentist with additional training and
certification.
Intravenous
Sedation
Dr.
Hatch is trained and licensed to perform this procedure.
This method of sedation is also referred to as conscious
sedation or twilight sleep because although the patient is awake
and can talk to us they have no memory of the visit and
generally sleep through the treatment. This method of
sedation is usually best for our moderately to extremely
apprehensive dental patients. This procedure also works
well for our patients who have a severe gag reflex.

General
Anesthesia
This
type of sedation needs to be performed by a licensed
anesthesiologist. We offer two facilities for patients
requiring general anesthesia. A licensed anesthesiologist
can come into our office and provide the anesthesia and monitor
the patient while Dr. Hatch performs the necessary treatment or
the patient may utilize the outpatient surgical facility.
Dr. Hatch is on staff at Gilbert Surgical Center (www.gilbert-sc.com).
This facility offers the patient a full hospital like setting
with all of the equipment and staff necessary to provide the
maximum comfort and safety.
Our
practice does not limit our patients into one or two options; we
customize the type of anesthesia we use to create a perfect fit
for all of our patients. This way the patient and the
dentist are comfortable receiving and providing the best
possible dental care, stress free and safe.
